During the war, two Jewish groups—the Irgun Zvai Leumi, the National Military Organization to which [[Menachem Begin]] belonged, and the Stern Group or Gang, named for Abraham Stern, their fanatical leader—were convinced that Britain had betrayed the Zionist cause. In order to remind the British of their commitment, the two groups resorted to terrorist attacks and political murders.
