यह शब्द संस्कृत से लिया गया है, इसका अर्थ है पृथ्वी पर ईश्वर द्वारा रची गयी सभी कृतियों के जनक और उनके विधि=निर्माता

मनु और उनकी देवीय सम्पूरक समरूप जोड़ी हैं जिन्हें पिता-माता भगवान ने एक निश्चित समय के लिए मानवजाति को ईश्वर की राह पर चलने के लिए प्रायोजित और प्रेरित करने का दायित्व सौंपा गया है - इसे रूट रेस कहा जाता है। प्रत्येक रुट रेस में जन्म लेने वाली जीवात्माओं का एक अपना विशेष स्वरुप व दिव्य योजना होती है जिसे पूरा करना उनका ध्येय होता है।
