Apostle

From TSL Encyclopedia

[from Greek apostolos, literally “messenger,” from apostellein “to send away”] One who is sent forth: messenger; one sent on a mission.

We are all, indeed, called to be apostles. Although the Christian Church was built on the foundation of both the apostles and the prophets, there is a distinction between the two. While the prophet was God’s spokesman to the believing Church, the apostle was his envoy to the unbelieving world. It is to unbelievers, to those who know not the Christ within, that the apostle must have the courage to preach. There are many, many more apostles than prophets in the true Church.
