Logos: Greek, “word”, “reason”, “speech”, “account”
- reason or the manifestation of reason conceived in ancient Greek philosophy as constituting the controlling principle in the universe:
- a moving and regulating principle in the universe together with an element in man by which according to Heraclitus this principle is perceived
- a cosmic governing or generating principle according to the Stoics that is immanent and active in all reality and that pervades all reality
- a principle that according to Philo is intermediate between ultimate or divine reality and the sensible world
- the actively expressed creative revelatory thought and will of God identified in the prologue of the Gospel of St. John and in various Christian doctrinal works with the second person of the Trinity.
