Imperil
Imperil is a name given by the Ascended Master El Morya to that which he defines as “the poison resulting from irritability ... which commands danger. This poison, a quite substantial one, is precipitated against the walls of the nerve channels and thus spread through the entire organism.”[1]
We learn, then, that the walls of the nerve channels collect a vibration of astral substance which may precipitate out into physical substance by the vibration of irritability. Irritability produces imperil.
If modern science would try impartially to examine the nerve channels, giving heed to the astral currents, it would encounter a strange decomposition of the astral substance during its passage through the nerve channels—this is the reaction to “imperil.” Only rest can help the nervous system to overcome the dangerous enemy which can call forth the most diverse irritations and painful contractions of the organism. He who is afflicted with imperil must repeat, “How beautiful is everything!”[2]
Imperil is a toxin that can infect, weaken and ultimately destroy. It can make projects fail, relationships fall apart and businesses disintegrate. Imperil can spread like a virus unless we decide to stop the chain reaction, hold the line and meet the force of irritation with absolute harmony. If we tie into the pattern of imperil instead of guarding our heart, we take on that same energy and add our momentum to it. We become a carrier of this infectious disease.
The antidote to imperil
What is the antidote to the poison of irritability? El Morya says:
We place our confidence in the power of patience. Asserting courage, We will not forget patience. It is a solace to know that patience overcomes any irritation. In the intensity of patience a special substance is created which, like a powerful antidote, neutralizes even imperil. But, of course, patience is not a lack of feeling. During criminal indifference, benevolent reactions are not evident. Patience is a conscious tension and an opposition to darkness.[3]
Patience is a most marvelous flame and it is always a flow of love that is supportive. Patience will overcome irritation. It is the pause, the deep breath, refraining from allowing the mouth to engage in a discordant situation. The decomposition of imperil takes place as the full strength of agni, the sacred fire of your heart, increases.
The problem of the ego
In the series Understanding Yourself, the masters teach about irritation and moodiness being the product of the ego. Where the ego cannot be offended, there is no need for irritation.
In anger and irritation man considers himself strong—this is according to earthly considerations. But regarded from the Subtle World, the irritated man is especially powerless. He attracts to himself a great number of small entities which feed on the emanations of anger. Besides, he lets down his own bars and allows even the lower beings to read his thoughts. Therefore, the state of irritation is inadmissible not only as a producer of imperil but also as a gateway for lower entities.
Certainly each irritated person readily agrees with this explanation, but he immediately succumbs to still greater irritation. Such is the nature of the ordinary human being. It is amazing how easily they agree, only the more easily to yield again. For this they will invent extraordinary justifications. It may be that the Higher World itself seems guilty in the disordered consciousness of the superficial earth-dweller! It is astonishing to observe people placing the blame for all their own offenses on the Higher World!
Thus one can see that the simplest truths are in need of constant repetition.[4]
The understanding of imperil should not cause us to feel guilty for generating irritability in the past. Morya says, “The past is prologue.” There is nothing we can do about the past except to invoke the violet flame. But because we have the wisdom and the enlightenment, we can be reborn in this very hour. And we must know that God and his Christ is far more powerful than anything we have ever miscreated.
El Morya has also stated that TV sets broadcast imperil. Over the TV set comes not only the voice—carefully studied, carefully smooth—of the announcer, but, his auric emanation. All that comes forth from his chakras and the subconscious is broadcast into our homes. There is a necessity for tuning into the news and current events. But we should be careful to use them with discrimination. We should not become fanatical and never watch anything on television, but we should be aware of what can come through its frequency.
Testing on the path
The neophytes of the Brotherhood are tested upon fear. A most hopeless situation is shown to them, and one waits to see what solution will be chosen by the tested one. Very few will think, What is there to be afraid of since the Brotherhood stands behind us? Precisely such a premise liberates one from fear and brings to light a free, beneficial solution. But most often, before thinking about the Brotherhood, a man will promptly get distressed, irritated, and filled with imperil. A plea from one filled with poison will not be useful.[5]
So if you allow yourself to be contaminated by imperil, you have to clear the atmosphere, the aura, and your own being before you have this wonderful instrument, your own being, at its peak of performance to send the call to the far-off worlds, to the heart of nirvana, where cosmic beings and Buddhas will hear that call and answer because you have sent it with such confidence, such harmony, such oneness with the Brotherhood.
